Calvin Jurkovic's life changed dramatically in 2018. When confronted with his mother's sad cancer diagnosis, among other family concerns, he took a life-changing decision.
Calvin left his last year at Middlesex University, where he studied Computer Science and Systems Engineering, to pursue a different destiny. It was time to reevaluate, motivated by a buried passion for photography that had been sidelined by well-intentioned career nudges towards more 'practical' occupations.
Calvin's transformation was well underway by 2019. He had quit his job at a gaming computer store and purchased a cheap Canon camera. This simple purchase signalled the beginning of an incredible adventure, spurred by the encouragement of Andrew Mercieca, a local photographer who recognised Calvin's natural ability.
Calvin's growing interest in photography quickly became a full-fledged obsession, as he captured everything from the glossy sheen of cars at dealerships to the pulsating energy of nightlife events.
Calvin's dedication quickly propelled him to the top of the local photographic scene. His distinctive vision and persistent work ethic resulted in collaborations with high-profile clients such as District and Numero Uno.
The turning point came from an unexpected chance at Milan's Defhouse, an incubator for Europe's most notable content makers. Here he transitioned into becoming the Director of Photography & Lead Camera Operator for Web Stars Channel, producing high end commercials with world class brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Netflix, Armani, Dolce Gabanna & more.
This became his latest role as he delved into producing & managing of post production Calvin extended his portfolio, smoothly switching from photography to videography and embracing the nuances of Italian language and culture.
Calvin's quest took an exciting turn in May 2021, when he received an invitation to the Monaco Grand Prix. This encounter in the high-stakes world of Formula One was a revelation. It was a great reflection of his passion for speed, precision, and narrative through his lens.
His work at the event led to other opportunities with Formula One, where he worked with major teams and sponsors and mingled with celebrities after being invited to attend all the races which followed, acting again as Director of Photography at each event, leading him to work with the likes of F1, Ferrari, BWT Alpine F1 Team, Aston Martin, Patron, Paramount Pictures and more.
Calvin spent 2023 reflecting and exploring, travelling to Argentina after being offered a role as Lead Camera Operator for the World Rally Raid Championship Series, producing for clients like Honda, KTM, Gas Gas, & Husqvarna.

This showcased his versatility in capturing racing, going from the high end & luxurious F1 to now the dirty & dangerous rally racing. After a brief return to Defhouse, he returned to Malta to reconnect with his roots and plan his next steps.
As 2024 progresses, Calvin is on the verge of another spectacular venture, preparing to join the Alpine F1 team. It demonstrates his unwavering dedication to his work as a leader in his field, as well as his capacity to adapt and thrive in ever shifting surroundings.
In this expedition, Calvin's story serves as a light of inspiration, showcasing the power of pursuing one's ambitions against all obstacles and the transformative experiences that may occur when one dares to dream.
